The much-anticipated Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypersport is finally coming out. It will come in 2022

The Mercedes-AMG One was first introduced to the world in the fall of 2017. However, complications with the development gradually delayed the start of its production.

At the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Mercedes-AMG division boasted of a so-called Project One model, a “covered formula” project. It was originally intended to reach consumers in 2019, but problems with development gradually delayed its arrival. However, next year, we expect car clients to finally see it.

The carmaker has confirmed that it will begin production of the Mercedes-AMG Project One in mid-2022. The first customers, including Nico Rosberg and David Colthard, came to their special show about five years later.

AMG was troubled by development difficulties. Shortly after the premiere, it became clear that the technology originally intended for Formula 1 would not be easy to adapt. Mercedes-AMG employees admitted that they underestimated development under the guise of anonymity.

The system, which integrates a 1.6-liter two-cylinder fork and three electric motors and a turbocharged electric motor, is reported to have problems complying with emission standards. So the car had to get at least two particle filters. The idle speed also had to be significantly reduced from 5,000 revolutions to 1,200 revolutions in the racing version.

Moreover, reliability also proved to be a weakness. Six small cylinders proved to be very fragile. He was unable to cover thousands of miles as expected from a production car. What is the difference between Formula 1 and the fact that the drive unit does not find such a section for several seasons that can be replaced?

However, despite the significant delay, the Mercedes-AMG Project One is set to retain the character presented at the premiere. Thanks to the propulsion system derived from the F1 car, this car is described as a covering formula for normal roads. In the same way, except for minor aerodynamic changes, the look will be practically protected.

In the meantime, however, we are waiting for the driving skills to be confirmed. In 2017, however, the manufacturer claimed that the Mercedes-AMG Project One would deliver an output of more than 740 kW (1,000 hp), which can reach speeds of 0-200 km / h in less than 6 seconds. And run at speeds of over 350 kilometers per hour. Thanks to electric motors, the car should be able to travel about 25 km on electricity alone.

To maintain its uniqueness, the company expects to produce only 275 project pieces, with customers paying 2.27 million euros or 57.6 million crowns.
