Parish Wexford Craftsman, Robert O & # 39; Connor recently received a great honor when he was commissioned to make a special piece for President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins.
President Higgins, now re-elected for the second term, was presented with a contracted deal when he recently attended the European Young Scientist Awards in Dublin.
Presentation piece called The Stones of Ireland & # 39; inspired by the ancient ancient stone walls of Ireland, which can still be seen in many rural areas.
Robert, owner of the Connor Woodturning Studio in Gorey, said he was delighted with the commission and was a huge privilege to be asked to create a wood sculpture for the president.
Piece was suitable for Michael D. Higgins because he was raised on a farm in County Clare where stone walls are so widespread. A large amount of hours has gone into making the final product and we hope the president will be proud of the significance and craftsmanship involved, "he said.
Describing the creative process, Robert stated: The work began as a straight Ashova piece, and the stone wall was embellished in the inner part and on the outer edge. It was then burnt out, shiny and painted. & # 39 ;.
"We are delighted with the outcome and hope that President Higgins will enjoy it and appreciate it."
