MANILA, Philippines – Cebuano great people Jun Mar Fajardo and Greg Slaughter and veteran guard Gabe Norwood are expected to lead a new national training pool to appoint coach Yeng Guiao at a meeting of the PBA board of governors on Tuesday.
Natural player Andrew Blatche, together with possible Christian Standhardinger and Stanley Pringle, has also been transferred to a list of players to be considered for the team that will play Kazakhstan and Iran in the fifth and last round of the World Cup FIBA Asian Qualification.
Guiao said he would consider the players who adjusted in a recent FIBA window, along with Gilas Pilipinas players who used the suspension after the conflict with Australia last July.
Paul Lee, Alex Cabagnot, Scottie Thompson, Poy Erram, Ian Sangalang, Marcio Lassiter, Allein Malicsi, Beau Belga and Asi Taulava all played for the Philippines at the FIBA window in September.
Guiao can also nominate new pool candidates – including 16-year-old Kai Subtu as a developer.
Defense Commissioner Willie Marcial said the committee wanted to hear from Guiao the necessary arrangements and adjustments that the league would have to take to support the World Cup.
Marcial also repeated that the league rested another break to surrender the national team match against Kazakhstan on November 30 and against Iran four days later.
The Filipino will have back-to-back domestic games before you play two consecutive "away" games to close the qualifying campaign.
They play Qatar in Doha and Kazakhstan in Almaty in February.
