Hollywood film crews have narrowly avoided a strike

The union says the strike was triggered by a series of strikes by Hollywood filmmakers that threatened to cripple the U.S. film industry from Monday if an agreement was reached on the terms of service of the industrial workers.

Matthew Loeb, president of the IATSE union, which represents tens of thousands of these entertainment workers, said in a statement Saturday night that “it’s the end of a Hollywood movie.”

Cameramen, set makers, costume designers, make-up artists … these workers threatened to strike from midnight on Sunday due to the blockage of negotiations for a new collective agreement.

The deal has not yet been approved by union members.

After months of negotiations, the Association of Film and Television Producers’ Association (AMPTP), especially those representing Disney, Warner or even Netflix, refused to agree to some of their demands.

The proposed agreement now focuses on key issues, including “reasonable leisure time, food breaks, living wages for those at the lower end of the pay scale and increasing compensation accordingly.” Companies, especially the trade union statement are listed.

“We stand up against some of the richest and most powerful technology and entertainment companies in the world and we have a deal with AMPTP to meet the needs of our members,” said Matthew Loeb.

AMPTP confirmed the deal to CNN without further comment.

Jolia Louis-Dreyfus or Samuel L. for the business of these industrial workers. There was a lot of support not only from actors like Jackson but also from left-wing political figures like Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren.

The last major social movement that Hollywood experienced was the writers’ strike that crippled the American audio-visual sector in 2007-2008. Independent estimates put the $ 100 billion conflict at $ 2 billion in deficit.

But the small hands of cinema have not lowered their cameras, brushes or accessories since 1945, when the six-month strike in front of the Warner Bros. studio degenerated into violent clashes.
