How to use Apple’s powerful new application of shortcuts in iOS 12

In addition to releasing new software for millions of iPhones, Apple has also launched a new app called Shortcuts, which can be found in the App Store. The service replaces the Workflow app that Apple bought months ago and works similar to If This Then That.

As described by Apple, Shortcuts offers a "much faster way to do things with the possibility that any app will work with Siri". If you're not a fan of Siri, you can quickly access your favorite shortcuts by navigating to your widget found to the left of the home screen.

Basically, links reduce actions in multiple steps in a single touch. For example, you can create a shortcut to call your favorite contact. You can also see when you should go to work.

Apple already offers a myriad of predefined shortcuts that you can easily add by browsing the app. You can even create custom shortcuts, like a quick link to TechnoBuffalo's YouTube channel. If you choose to create one, you will have full control over the "actions" of a link, which are the steps necessary to make a link work.

In addition, users have control over some of the more granular features of a link, such as design, name and more. It's a great way to completely customize the shortcuts you create, which can also be shared with friends and family.

Apple is really pushing Siri as a great member of the Shortcuts app, but it is not necessary to use the assistant to take advantage of the new service. However, talking directly with Siri is the quickest way to get things going, so your relationship with Apple's artificial intelligence might change.

If you've ever used IFTTT, Apple shortcuts will seem very familiar to you. The app features over 300 integrated actions, making it an incredibly powerful tool. Many of the suggested shortcuts are designed to work with their Apple apps and services, although there are some third-party integrations, such as the ability to quickly save the clipboard to Evernote.

Apple shortcuts are now available for free.
